Mt. Buffalo olives have been winning awards since 2005, but it was a move from Melbourne in 1998 when Mt. Buffalo Olives began. Elisa and Colin wanted a change and thought what more beautiful location to set up the next stage in their lives then Mt. Buffalo. They purchased a 50 acre paddock that was completely bare and undeveloped.

At this time they knew nothing of olives, but given their land and climate in the area, growing them seemed like a logical choice. Colin is an arborist so had good knowledge of framing and cultivating trees and Elisa utilized her creative arts and hospitality background to develop the business. They both then took the time to learn everything there is to know about olives.
900 trees were planted featuring ten different varieties and since that time they have become famous for their award winning produce, expanding their range to olive oils, flavored oils, pastes and many other condiments.
Each May the olive grove is harvested by hand, pressed locally and the made available to the public, sold through selected local outlets or at the farm gate.
Over time they have refined and improved their product to the point where they are winning nationally ranked awards, most recently winning the Champions Trophy for Best Flavored Oil at the 2014 Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards for Lemon Agrumato. And speaking from experience, dipping a good sour dough into the Lemon Agrumato will leave you satisfied and craving more (as I write this I am salivating just thinking about it).
If you fancy a longer stay, you can take advantage of accommodation on site, perfect for a weekend away as it is only a 10 minute drive to Bright town center. In keeping with the theme of the estate, Colin crafted the retreat himself from a Ski Lodge, previously located at Mt. Hotham. You won’t find accommodation anywhere with a more personal touch then that.
