The day began in blazing sunshine with temperatures hitting 90 degrees on Stage 12, and yet somehow managed to do a complete 180. With reports coming in of hail stones at the finish line, the riders definitely had something to worry about. But while you can't control the weather, you can control your bike.
Robbie gives us his top tips for cornering on a descent when the weather packs in unexpectedly.
Pre-brake gently to clear your rims of excess water, allowing you to then apply more pressure and cut speed before the turn.
Stay off the white lines!!!!
And stay away from the center of the lane. If cars and trucks are leaking engine oil, that’s where your tires will find it.
K.I.S.S. Keep it smooth…you get the rest. Enter the corner in a controlled manner and exit in the same way. You are better off going in slower and accelerating out of the corner than having to try and cut speed with aggressive actions while you are leaned over.
Keep your bike as upright as possible. Cut your speed and then try to get off your bike keeping your center of gravity towards the uphill slope holding your bike away from you in as upright a position as possible. There isn’t much grip on your rims, so stick to the tread instead.
