Well after the shock of yesterday comes a more light-hearted and upbeat Backstage Pass from the Orica-GreenEDGE team, even if it was on one of the most dreaded days of the Tour.
It’s time for some pave action!
We check in with a pretty tender team as they prepare for the ‘mini Paris-Roubaix’, which features six cobblestone sections.
Bling in particular looks like he’s struggled overnight, confessing it was hard at times to breath thanks to those seriously bruised ribs.
Matt White gets a dressing down for jumping out of the car and attending to yesterday’s crash – without his shoes on.
We’re a little worried the food donations from Orica-GreenEDGE fans might be wavering? We didn’t see any culinary relief packages delivered in this backstage, but the boys do stop by one of the merchandise tents to grab a Tour de France branded thermos. Or, in their words, a hot dog warmer.
Interesting.
On a more somber note tomorrow’s stage passes through Bullecourt, Pozières, Péronne and Villers-Bretonneux – all key battlefields for Australia in World War 1. As a result the boys will be wearing black armbands when they race tomorrow. Aussies and Kiwis over at the Tour are encouraged to really get behind this section of the stage and pay homage to our ANZACs.
