Mike Turtur is synonymous with the Tour Down Under. He has been a part of every edition since the inaugural race back in 1999. To get the full story on the 18th edition of this great race, we caught up with Mike to give us the lowdown.
"It's more than just a bike race"
The formula that has worked so well in recent years is back again for the 2016 Tour Down Under. The course has been designed to cater for sprinters and climbers, each given three opportunities to shine. The hill-top finish on Willunga Hill is back, as is the soul-crushingly steep Corkscrew Rd climb - and what better way to finish than a full-gas, 55 mile race around the Adelaide CBD?
As well as providing an in-depth description of the 2016 edition, Mike explains the evolution of the Tour Down Under, and hints at some potential developments in the years to come.
The race has grown into a massive tourism event that sees people from all over the world converge on Adelaide to watch some spectacular racing in a stunning location.
The Tour Down Under is the perfect way to kick off the WorldTour season.
