Specialized Bicycle Components, commonly referred to as Specialized, was founded by Mike Sinyard. The company initially imported Cinelli parts from Italy to the U.S.A in the years following 1974. The Californian-based company entered component creation themselves in 1976, with the first product being the Specialized Touring Tyre.
Now best known for its bicycles, the brand began production in 1979 with the Allez, a road bike, and the Sequoia, a sport touring bike. Specialized was the first company to mass produce the mountain bike, introducing the Stumpjumer in 1981 which along with the Allez and Sequoia, remains in the range to this day albeit with a few advancements over the years.
Specialized Cycling Products
Since the 1980s, Specialized continued to diversify and progress with its cycling products. Along with bikes, Specialized provide a massive range of accessories, clothing, shoes, helmets, and components, creating a total rider package under one name.
S-Works
S-Works originates from Specialized’s desire to meet the demands of professionals. S-Works is both the fastest and the best that the American company has to offer. Not only producing bikes, the S-Works department creates cutting edge shoes, helmets, saddles, components and accessories. This advanced technology often trickles down to form and benefit other Specialized products.
